Contentment Has Become One of My Greatest Teachers - I’m not always the best student though…😏
I’ve always been driven. Anyone who knows me knows I set goals, chase outcomes, and push hard. It’s helped me grow in my career and in life—but it’s also taught me something important:
If your happiness is always tied to some future outcome, you’ll never really feel it.
For a long time, I thought I’d be content once something happened—once I hit the next milestone, solved the next problem, built the next thing. But the truth is, the future rarely turns out exactly the way we picture it. Not necessarily worse or better—just… different. Shaped by things in our control and things that are not.
And in the middle of all that, I’ve realized there are a few things I do control:
my attitude, my presence, and how I show up for the people around me.
I can’t control every outcome, but I can control how I happen to my day. I can choose kindness. I can choose to pay attention. I can choose to invest in relationships and community instead of constantly racing ahead.
I need to be reminded often.
Contentment isn’t about settling. It’s about being grounded right where you are, even while you keep moving forward. It’s knowing that career success, family, faith, health, friendships—all of it—is built on showing up well long before any “result” arrives.
I’m still learning, but being content has actually made me better at being driven.
I push hard, but I try not to chase my worth.
I set goals, but I’m learning not to hang my joy on them.
I’m still ambitious, but I’m working to be more present along the way.
And here’s what I’m finding:
A life lived with contentment weathers storms better and it celebrates victories deeper—because those moments get shared with people you’ve poured into, and who have poured into you.
It has more connection, more peace, and honestly… more meaning.
So yes—set goals. Build the future. Stay driven.
But also:
Be kind.
Be purposeful.
Be sacrificial.
Be present.
Contentment won’t slow you down. It gives you a strong foundation to work from and allows you to enjoy the journey not just the destination.
Great time to practice as we are in the middle of the Christmas season where we celebrate the birth of the one who sacrificed it all so we could have freedom, peace, purpose, joy and contentment!
